There are multiple different kinds of massages. Not every massage is a one-size-fits-all experience. Before your massage begins, your therapist will consult with you on your preferences to fully receive the best massage that's tailored to you, knowing what you hope to gain from your appointment is crucial.

Based on your preferences, start by answering these questions:

  1. What type of massage are you seeking? Therapeutic/ Relaxation/ Deep Tissue

  2. What pressure do you prefer? Light/ Medium/ Deep

Know the Different Techniques

Swedish- Uses firm but gentle pressure to promote relaxation, ease muscle tension and create other health benefits. It is a classic massage that will ease your stress and allow you to slip into a calm state of relaxation.

Therapeutic- This is a deep tissue massage designed to remove severe tension. It helps improve the range of motion and heal injuries below the surface.

Pre-Natal- Pregnancy massage focuses on addressing the special needs of expecting mothers with the use of specially designed cushions and lying postures.

Hot Sticks & Stones- Use of warmed, smoothed stones and bamboo sticks to relax, nurture and restore. The effects of the heat allow the effects of the massage to be delivered deeper into the muscles without excessive pressure.

Cupping- Modern adaptation of the ancient art of cupping therapy. While the massage is performed by applying pressure, cupping instead uses negative pressure to pull, lift, open, and expand the body's soft tissues.

Couples Massage- A massage experience for two. This massage can be any technique, while side-by-side with your partner. The benefits are endless for physical, mental, and relationship health.

Carpal Tunnel Therapy- Ice compressions are applied to arms and wrists for 20 minutes. During this time, you will get a relaxing back/shoulder massage. After the 20 minutes then Shawna will start the cross-fiber friction which breaks up the blockage in the wrists. This is NOT a relaxing massage; it is a treatment. It is recommended to start with four sessions and then once a month.

Before Your Massage

You have scheduled your appointment, and you know what to expect during your massage. Now your appointment is quickly approaching. Now what? Hydrate. WATER is essential! Eat lightly, dress comfortably, and last but not least arrive 10-15 minutes early. This gives you time to fill out health forms and ask any last-minute questions.

After Your Massage

The end of your massage doesn't have to be rushed. Get up slowly. It's perfectly acceptable and encouraged to stay on the table for a few minutes. Also, a relaxing massage will lower your heart rate, so you don’t want to increase it by standing up and walking out too quickly. Finally, remember to hydrate. It's as equally if not more important, to hydrate after a massage to avoid getting sick.
